A Little about the Book:
Bark George is about a young dog who cannot bark.  Instead, the dog says other animal sounds such as a cat when his mother asks him to bark.  Worried about him, his mother takes George to the vet.  The vet discovers George has a whole bunch of other animals inside of him, and pulls them all out.  George is than able to bark.
The Illustrations:
The illustrations are very simplistic.  The background colors of the pages are very bright and vibrant.  The illustrations being simplistic in Bark George help children pay attention to the story.  In addition, the illustrations compliment and tell the story themselves.
Themes:
·         Animal sounds
·         Dogs
Age Level:
This cookbook is appropriate for kids between the ages of 1 and 6.  The simplistic story makes it easy for young children to follow and understand what is happening.  Bark George is a great book for children to start reading alone.  The story is very short and easy to remember so children would be able to tell the story from memory.  This helps them gain an understanding of book patterns and recognition of some familiar words.
Personal Response:
Bark George is a great book.  My favourite part of the book is when the vet is pulling all of the animals out of George.  The pictures are very funny, and the story line is hilarious.  Both my son and I laugh during this part.
Teacher Ideas:
This website contains various Bark George activities to do with children.  The activities encompass Math, Language Arts, and Art.  These would be great for children in preschool and kindergarten.
